Natural Pool, Riwaka
This elevated hillside property with stunning rural, mountain & sea views underwent a complete renovation with both house & land. The Natural pool was integrated into the new Mediterranean style and positioned as a focal point for the outdoor entertainment area, skilfully capturing the splendid vistas. The set up of the pool on a steep slope and an almost total change of the existing landscaping made this possible.
The brief required a deck on two levels, with the lower deck being at pool level, a fishpond on the upper level and a cascading watercourse with the visual illusion of connecting pond with pool. An outdoor shower & pizza oven had to be built and then along with these a spa pool was integrated into this overall scheme.
Limited access meant the pool structure had to be build with concrete reinforced polystyrene blocs. The design consisted of a curved front wall of the 9.5 x 5 m pool to take in the vast view and two regeneration zones on either side.
A jetty across the pool gives access to the other side. The creation of a planted retaining wall in front of the curved wall minimizes the impact of the 2.2 m high front pool wall.
The overall orientation gives the effect of an infinity pool leading out to the views below and beyond.
Lush planting in and around the pool and plastered seating & retaining walls between the two deck levels complement the Mediterranean look.
“When we initially discussed our swimming pool project we never realised that Natural Pools would turn our concepts into a fantastic living dream. Alex and Hans went way beyond normal building and landscape practices to deliver a truly incredible outdoor lounge and entertaining area complete with waterfall, spa and outdoor shower. If I could only clone them I’d start my own natural pool company! “
